Sydney

Updated: Jan 8, 2022

What a session this was! Sydney won a session at the Hope Show auction this last year and we were finally able to make it happen. I've known Sydney for a few years now through the dance world and am so thrilled that I had the chance to shoot with her again (Check out our last session in Arizona!).

Sydney wanted a location in nature, so we decided on Snoqualmie to take advantage of the beautiful fields, rivers, and mountains. I love the outfits she chose and think that the colors ended up complimenting the location so well! The Dr. Marten's were probably my favorite piece that she chose because they added just the slightest tough-girl vibe that contrasted her feminine outfits so well!

For hair and makeup, Syd wanted loose, beachy waves and natural makeup that complimented her best features. It was really important to me to make sure her freckles weren't lost, but emphasized instead. We used light foundation and concealer only in the areas that needed it and use the softest shadows with a hint of shimmer to define her eyes. As (almost) always, I added a few individual lashes to the outsides of her eyes to accent her already beautiful lashes. For her brows, we kept them soft but defined enough to frame her face. After adding a little color to the lip with a diffused pencil and cheeks with a cream, we were ready to go!

The actual session ran very smoothly but we had the surprise of a lifetime when we were in the field at the end of the evening. A herd of elk (I'm talking hundreds), decided to run through the field! Now normally, this would be really cool. But picture this, we're in grass that's taller than our heads and then we suddenly see the grass moving Jurassic Park style 😳 Then these giant heads starting popping up and down out of the grass and you start yelling and waving your arms around saying hello to the elk in hopes that they don't come your way 😂 I'm being a little dramatic and we were totally fine but I think it was one of the craziest things that's ever happened during one of my sessions.

I'm so thrilled with how Sydney's set turned out and am so glad that family chose to order a beautiful 12x12" album showcasing all of these beautiful images. Digitals are often forgotten about on a USB stick in a random drawer somewhere, but I know the albums I create will be treasured for generations 💖 Scroll to the bottom to see a preview of the album we created and tech specs!

Which image is your favorite?

This session was shot on a Canon 5dmkiii. I used a Canon 70-200mm f2.8, Canon 50mm f1.4, and Sigma Art 35mm f1.4. Natural light was used and shaped with reflectors. Images were color corrected in Lightroom and retouched in Photoshop.
